I noticed you photograph petite women rather than thicker ones, is that because you favor one over the other?
That’s just how it works. I guess my first couple shoots were with petite models n it kinda snowballed. N a lot of the thicker ‘models’ in the city are on that vixen shit (ratchet shit) lol… & far as these pics are concerned i’m not a fan of ratchet. Thick Miami models for example are waaaaaay different than our thick Toronto models.
I use Photoshop exclusively and have for a while. I was never a fan of batch editing in Lightroom becuz for me the lighting and settings between shots changes very frequently and to group edit photos didn’t do them justice I felt. There are ways to integrate some of the better features from Lightroom into your editing process, but I know how to do everything that Lightroom offers in CS6. So i suggest learning photoshop and using the tonnes of tutorials available online until you find a style you’re comfortable with, like I did. If you’re doing portraiture… Don’t do too much. Over editing is an eye sore for me personally, whether it be an airbrush technique or an hdr effect. trial and error is the best way, I learn something everytime I open photoshop and my ideals of what’s appealing as an editing style changes very frequently as well. I feel like in most photographers early days we tend to do too much editing and as you grow wiser you refine your edit game… & use shadow and highlight adjustments sparingly with portraiture cuz I used to think that made em look hdr.. terrrrible for portraiture in retrospect, Especially if you’re after that ‘clean’ look .
What lens do you use for your shots? I tend to stick to a 50
I’ve got a 50- I actually broke it. But I rarely used it anyhow. For the price and aperture you can get some dope depth out of shots. But I’ve always liked to shoot with a High F Stop, so it made more sense to use my 18-135. I stopped being a fan of my pics with completely blurred backgrounds a couple years ago, just out of personal preference. I like photos where the model is in focus & all the details in the background help to build the image- rather than a totally blurred background at like f/2.
Dope photography dude,I'm a music prod. from the DMV, got any tips on expanding a brand/getting stuff out to people?
I wish. I’m trying to weather that storm right now. How some people are able to garner the attention that they do bewilders everyday. so far my only plan is… being dope as I can & producing that #dopeshit at any means necessary. That + consistency are the only tips i’ve really got.
Who was your first model and how did you approach her?
Ah man. I think it was kacysuicide…. She was working in the mall in Lethbridge, Alberta & had a fresh foot tat so her whole foot was swollen n shit. I made some small talk about that and some of her other tats & suggested she try out being a suicide girl. To which she said she was already (a hopeful at the time) & I told her I was a photographer… she didn’t really take me serious which is why she only gave me her facebook lol. She didn’t show me any love for like another 6 months.. all of which I spent learning and trying to prove myself… I shot a lot of landscape stuff over that summer and she finally saw some potential in me- enough to hit me back up wanting to shoot. We shot a few times around the city and at my house- some just for fun & others was suicide girl content. & becuz suicide girls require some nudity she was open with me from the rip & she’s a big part of the reason for what you see here today. Those sessions helped me learn a lot and she was 1 of the first to free the nip. I haven’t shot her in years, and since she’s become 1 of the baddddest suicide girls… next time we get together… we’re shooting for like a week straight. I miss her terribly.
But considering this was about 4-5 years ago, things have changed significantly with social media- and I’m not sure if I would have approached her that day if IG was what it is today… But anyhow.. If you’ve read this and want me to post some OG Brandon Jordan x Kacy pics then like this. 25 likes at least and I’ll know some of yall are interested.
You always preach about censorship and blah blah blah but you go and take photos of Ajuki covered up. Don't get me wrong I don't care about her photos, I just want to know if it's worth losing your integrity over. Has she put you in a tough spot? Or are you just the guy who shoots people with xyz amount of followers now...
LOLLL omarij88 said the Anons are evolving!! Anons turning philosophers for the love of that titty… I feel y’all, I really do lollll.
Not sure if you've been asked what I'm about to ask you, if yes my apology. My question is; do you ask all the girls you shoot to light "one" up or most of them just happen to smoke ? Better yet, is it the concept/theme of the shoot ?
Nah, smoking has never been the concept or theme of a shoot per say. I never ask them to smoke… I’m usually smoking and I’ll ask if they smoke… and if they do, dope & I pass it- and if not, I face it & we keep it moving. I guess most of them just happen to smoke… I’ve always liked taking pics of smoke. Now I take pic of someone smoking like once a week when I could prolly do it a couple times a day realistically.
Is it okay if the model has pimples, will you still shoot?.... Cause I know there's a lot of pretty girls with flaws n what not
lol 8/10 girls I shoot with have skin flaws and facial imperfections… That’s part of my job. Touching Up a photo is something most photographers practice (some are better than other obviously), but all my photos get ‘touched up’- not quite what ‘Photoshopped’ means these days.. I won’t alter body shapes or do excessive skin smoothing. But to answer ur question, nah… I don’t ask about pimples as a prerequisite…

Is there any photos you posted that you think should be more popular? Or do you not really correlate tumblr notes/instagram likes to how good a photo is?
Honestly I stopped thinking about that shit a while ago. I post a lot of pics on here that I think are gonna be dumb popular, and they just do allright. & other pics that I post and don’t really think much of get 80k notes. I don’t know what IG likes, so I don’t really concern myself with that either. It’s obviously dope to get love on our work, but i’m out for respect n personally there’s no correlation between that and likes.
Was goood man, I'm a photographer from Mem, TN. I've always had to take some time to figure out a location in which to shoot a model. I wanted to know do you have certain thought process as to choosing locations, or do you see places and remember them for future shoots?
That’s often the hardest part especially without having a consistent, well located space.. When I first started I just knew I wanted to shoot and wasn’t as concerned with where. So i’ve gotten accustom to making impromptu decisions (a lot of the time) far as locations are concerned. I usually see places while I’m headed to meet the model and location scouting carries on after we meet- considering backdrops that will compliment the model, her clothes, her hair… Another thing I do is use google earth if the location i’m headed to is completely unknown to me and I’ll get an idea of some potential spots. & I for sure take notes of places that are aesthetically pleasing everyday that help occasionally as well.
